REPORT: Texas the ‘Clear Leader’ for TCU Transfer DL Damonic Williams

TCU Starting Defensive Lineman Damonic Williams to Enter Transfer Portal

Last week, TCU defensive tackle Damonic Williams became one of the best available players in the transfer portal when he decided to test the waters and see what kind of interest was out there.

As it turns out, the market for elite defensive linemen remains high, as always, and Williams has had plenty of teams blowing up his phone.

Since entering the portal, Williams has spent extended visits with Oklahoma and Texas, and is set to take visits to LSU and Missouri, among others. However, a report from On3’s Pete Nakos suggests that this one might be close to wrapping up, at least in terms of who will win the talented defender’s services.

On Thursday afternoon, Nakos reported that Texas is the “clear leader” to land the former Horned Frogs ahead of the 2024 season.

Williams, listed at 6-foot-2, 320 pounds, is a sophomore who started 15 games in his freshman season for the Frogs in 2022.

After recording 27 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks that year, he was named True Freshman All-American (247Sports), Freshman All-American (College Football News), and Honorable Mention Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year.

In 2023, Willaims started all 12 games for the Horned Frogs and finished the year with 33 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, and 3.0 sacks, earning honorable mention All-Big 12 honors once again.

Williams was listed as a four-star prospect out of high school, ranking as the No. 39 DL and No. 34 player in the state of California in 2022.
