Arizona State Adds Milwaukee Guard BJ Freeman in Transfer Portal

Arizona State University head basketball coach Bobby Hurley is interviewed on TNT's pregame broadcast Men's before the NCAA national championship game at State Farm Stadium.

Bobby Hurley and the Arizona State Sun Devils added a new name to their roster ahead of the 2024-25 season with the commitment of Milwaukee guard transfer BJ Freeman.

Freeman, a 6-foot-6 junior from North Carolina, posted some incredible numbers at Milwaukee and earned Second-Team All-Conference honors as a junior.

Freeman established himself as one of the top-ranked guards in the Horizon last season at Milwaukee and developed into an interesting prospect in the transfer portal. The North Carolina native posted 21.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game in his third season of college basketball. He also shot 42.2% from the field and connected on 35.1% of his shots from three-point land.

While most major recruiting services listed Freeman as an unranked prospect when he came out of high school, the junior forward worked his way into a four-star prospect just three years later as a transfer by the 247Sports index. He checked in as the 121st-ranked player in the portal and the 18th-ranked player at his position.

With his commitment, Freeman became the second player to commit to Arizona State in the transfer portal, joining former Ole Miss Rebel Austin Nunez. Freeman and Nunez will take the court this season as members of the Big 12 Conference in 2024-25 with ASU.
