Spencer Rattler’s NFL Draft Stock Hurt by ‘QB1’ Reality Show: Report

In the weeks before the 2024 NFL Draft, former Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler generated buzz as a name to watch early on Day Two.

Rattler wound up slipping far in the NFL Draft, falling all the way to the fifth round, where the New Orleans Saints used the 150th pick to select the South Carolina signal caller.

Many fans questioned the reason for such a drastic fall until a report surfaced from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The report discussed multiple teams being bothered by Spencer Rattler’s image in a Netflix reality show, QB1Beyond the Lights.

“This is kind of weird to say, honestly,” Rapoport said. “Spencer Rattler did a reality show in high school. It’s called QB1—Beyond the Lights. It did not make him look great. It is unbelievable how many different teams mentioned to me the image of him in that show and how they can’t get it out of their heads. Which I think would be a public service announcement to all 17-year-olds, but it is fascinating as teams weigh whether or not to draft him.”

To blame Rattler’s drop-off on the show itself might not be entirely true, as the Arizona native didn’t do himself any favors with his attitude or personality captured in the series. Below is a clip from the show of Rattler getting into a heated debate with another member of the quarterback room after the teammate called Rattler out for some over-the-top cockiness.

While reality shows rarely end up finishing with their main characters in a good light, Spencer Rattler is a great example of what can happen when prospects are thrown into the spotlight too early.
