Kansas State G Dai Dai Ames Enters Transfer Portal

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament East Regional-Florida Atlantic vs Kansas State

Jerome Tang and the Kansas State Wildcats are losing a key player to the transfer portal on Sunday, with four-star guard Dai Dai Ames electing to depart the program.

Ames committed to join Kansas State in the Class of 2023 and spent one season in Manhattan under Jerome Tang. On3’s Joe Tipton was the first to report the news.

The loss of Ames is the first major questionable loss for the Wildcats, as Ames was likely stepping into a starter’s role in 2024-25. The Illinois native posted some solid numbers in limited minutes, averaging 5.2 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game in his first season of college basketball.

Coming out of Kenwood Academy in the Class of 2023, Ames was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 64th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 13th-ranked player at his position and the second-ranked player in the state of Illinois.

While the loss of Dai Dai Ames does provide a new vacancy for Tang and company to address in the offseason, the Wildcats have hosted a full slate of visitors in the past week, which likely contributed to Ames’ decision. According to Tipton’s report, Ames entered the portal with a do-not-contact tag.
