UCF Hosts Top-Ranked Portal RB Peny Boone

Gus Malzahn and the UCF Knights are hosting Toledo’s Peny Boone, one of the top-ranked running backs in the transfer portal, on a visit.

Boone, a former four-star running back in the Class of 2020, recorded more than 1600 scrimmage yards last season as a senior at Toledo.

Coming out of Martin Luther King High School in the Class of 2020, Boone was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 359th-ranked prospect. He also checked in as the 25th-ranked running back in his class and the sixth-ranked player in the state of Michigan. Boone totaled 194 carries for 1400 yards in his senior season, where he posted an unreal 7.2 yards per carry. The Michigan native also added 16 total touchdowns scored.

A talented player in the Class of 2020, Boone received offers from 24 different programs. He elected to commit to Maryland over offers from Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Purdue, Tennessee, West Virginia, and more.

247Sports’ Allen Trieu evaluated Fall when coming out of high school, saying, “Big back in every sense. Tall, thick build with a strong, developed lower body. Shows good power and will get his pad level down and break tackles. What makes him unique is he also has the skills of a smaller back. Excellent route runner and pass catcher. Runs with some wiggle and can make cuts and get outside as well. Smooth runner who glides and has shown he can break longer runs.”

With multiple impressive players considering making a switch to join the UCF Knights in the transfer portal, the Big 12 Conference may have woken a sleeping giant.
