Texas LB Kendrick Blackshire Enters Transfer Portal

NCAA Football: Texas at West Virginia

After committing to join the Texas Longhorns in the transfer portal back in January, former Alabama linebacker Kendrick Blackshire is re-entering the transfer portal.

Blackshire, a four-star linebacker from Duncanville, Texas, spent three seasons with the Crimson Tide from 2021-2023.

The junior linebacker initially committed to join Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns in the transfer portal on January 16th but will now pursue other options in the portal. Through three seasons in Tuscaloosa, Blackshire posted a total of 25 tackles and one forced fumble.

Coming out of Duncanville High School in the Class of 2021, Blackshire was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 168th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 21st-ranked player at his position and the 30th-ranked player in the state of Texas.

247Sports’ Gabe Brooks spoke on Blackshire when coming out of high school, saying, “A bulked-up specimen with virtually college-ready size at linebacker as a high school sophomore. Powerful lower body with impressive upper-body build. Has made plays as a traditional inside linebacker, off the edge, and playing with a hand on the ground. Could provide personnel flexibility in college. Among the top defensive prospects in Texas for the 2021 class. Possesses long-term NFL Draft potential.”

With Blackshire the newest departure from Austin, Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns will need to scramble to find some depth in the linebacker room before the spring transfer portal closes.
