Grant McCasland and the Texas Tech Red Raiders added a new name to their roster on Tuesday with the commitment of Minnesota guard transfer Elijah Hawkins.

Hawkins, a 5-foot-11 guard from Washington, DC, spent the first two seasons of his career at Howard before transferring to Minnesota as a junior.

The 5-foot-11, 165-pound big man posted some solid numbers in his junior season, averaging 9.5 points, 7.5 assists, and 3.6 assists per game. In addition to his impressive scoring numbers, Hawkins was also an efficient scorer, connecting on 39.3% of his shots from the field and 36.4% on shots from three.

While most major recruiting services listed Hawkins as an unranked prospect when he came out of high school, the Maryland native worked his way into a four-star portal prospect three seasons later. Hawkins is listed as the 60th-ranked player in the portal on the 247Sports index and the 15th-ranked player at his position.

With his commitment, Hawkins became the Red Raiders’ third addition this offseason and will join Drake’s Kevin Overton and Pittsburgh’s Federiko Federiko in Lubbock in 2024-25.

As Grant McCasland gets ready for his second year in Lubbock, the former Baylor assistant has made great use of the transfer portal in order to field a competitive roster in 2024-25.
