Houston Football Adds Louisville OL Transfer Sam Secrest

Willie Fritz and the Houston Cougars added a new name to their roster on Friday with the commitment of Louisville offensive line transfer Sam Secrest.

Secrest, a three-star prospect from Indianapolis, Indiana, committed to join the Cardinals in the Class of 2022, and after two seasons with the team, he will now head to Houston.

Coming out of Roncalli High School in the Class of 2022, Secrest was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 1750th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 103rd-ranked player at his position and the 23rd-ranked player in the state of Indiana.

The 6-foot-6, 305-pound lineman is one of two additions through the transfer portal this spring alongside Kennesaw State defensive line transfer Carlos Allen Jr.

The news of Secrest’s commitment is big for Houston fans, as the spring transfer portal window has included departures from the team. Fritz’s squad has lost 20 players, including Sam Brown, Isaiah Hamilton, Mikal Harrison-Pilot, and many more.

While Houston has lost many names this offseason, Louisville is no different. Secrest is one of many former Cardinals who are exciting the program. With his commitment to Houston, he will officially take the field as a member of the Big 12 Conference.
