Texas Lands San Jose State DB Transfer Jay’Vion Cole

NCAA Football: Texas at West Virginia

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns made a major splash in the transfer portal on Sunday with the addition of San Jose State defensive back transfer Jay’Vion Cole.

Cole, a 5-foot-10 cornerback from California, was the top-ranked cornerback in the transfer portal after posting some incredible numbers as a sophomore in 2023.

Last season with the Spartans, Cole posted 38 total tackles, three interceptions, one sack, one fumble recovery, and 10 pass breakups. As a freshman in 2022, the California native recorded 15 stops, four interceptions, and four pass breakups for San Jose State.

Coming out of McClymonds High School in the Class of 2022, Cole was listed as a two-star prospect by the 247Sports index. He also checked in as the 322nd-ranked player at his position and the 438th-ranked player in the state of California.

Cole received six different offers when coming out of high school and elected to commit to SJSU over offers from Cal Poly, Black Hills State, Rocky Mountain, St. Norbert College, and Western Oregon.

With his commitment, Texas added yet another impact player at a key position which should help to make the adjustment to life in the SEC much smoother.
