Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears made a splash in the transfer portal on Monday with the addition of Texas A&M offensive line transfer Colton Thomasson.

Thomasson, a 6-foot-8, 325-pound tackle from Texas, was a highly-coveted player in the Class of 2023, where he committed to join the Texas A&M Aggies over offers from Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas, TCU, and more.

“Baylor was always somewhere I thought I would love to play,” Thomasson told Bears Illustrated’s Will Turboff. I know a lot of people, so it already felt like home when I was there. Coach Spavital is bringing in a high-tempo, high-action offense that I think is really going to help us win some games in the fall. I think working with Coach Miller can help develop me to get to that next level.”

Coming out of Smithson Valley High School in the Class of 2023, Thomasson was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 405th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 25th-ranked player at his position and the 65th-ranked player in the state of Texas.

“I have my mind on us winning the whole thing,” Thomassan said about the Big 12 Championship. “I know Baylor’s done it in the past, and now they’re giving coach Aranda every resource left to be able to make sure it gets done right, and I think that’s what’s going to happen.”

Thomasson and the Bears will play for the first time in 2024 on Saturday, August 31st, against the Tarleton State Texans.
