The Baylor Bears have added one of the best available players in the transfer portal this cycle with Miami transfer forward Norchad Omier choosing Scott Drew’s program for his next destination.

Omier, who ESPN’s Jeff Borzello describes as the “best frontcourt player available in the portal,” is listed at 6-foot-7 and brings four years of college experience to Waco with him.

The senior transfer has appeared in 120 games in his collegiate career, starting in 117 of them, and has averaged a double-double in each of his seasons. In 2023-24, Omier started all 31 games that he appeared in, averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds in over 30 minutes per contest.

Baylor got the good news on Sunday night, as Omier announced his intentions in an Instagram post.

“My main goal has always been to help my team win at the highest level, while continuing to develop as a person and a basketball player,” Omier wrote on Instagram. “I have been fortunate enough to help lead a team to a Final Four and am hungry to not only get back there again, but this time help lead my team to a National Championship.

“After taking this all into account, all signs have led me in this direction and I am at peace with my decision. With that being said, I have decided to commit to Baylor University and can’t wait to achieve these dreams together over the next year.”

Omier earned second-team All-ACC honors in 2023-24 and third-team All-ACC honors for Miami in each of the last two seasons, helping lead the Hurricanes to a Final Four appearance in 2022-23 He began his career at Arkansas State, spending his first two years with the Red Wolves. In 2022, Omier won Sun Belt Player of the Year after averaging 17.9 points and 12.2 rebounds per game.

Scott Drew will now have his pivotal weapon on the inside after loading up on the perimeter in the cycle up to this point after adding Duke transfer Jeremy Roach and highly-touted recruit V.J. Edgecombe.

In a loaded Big 12 that features Kansas, Houston, Iowa State, and Arizona, the Baylor Bears can now throw their hat in the ring as contenders for the conference title and a whole lot more.
