Colorado Football Adds Furman DB Transfer Ivan Yates

NCAA Football: Arizona at Colorado

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes added a new name to their roster on Monday with the commitment of Furman defensive back transfer Ivan Yates.

Yates spent the previous three seasons at Furman and quickly developed into one of the Paladins’ best coverage corners.

Yates, a 6-foot, 180-pound sophomore from Georgia, posted some solid stats last season at Furman, including 40 total tackles and five pass breakups. Through three seasons with the team, Yates posted 74 stops, 11 pass breakups, one interception, one sack, and one forced fumble.

While most major recruiting services listed Yates as an unranked prospect when he came out of high school, he still received an impressive cast of offers. The Georgia native chose to play at Furman over offers from 14 different programs, including SMU, Liberty, South Alabama, Air Force, Lehigh, Austin Peay, and more.

With his commitment, Yates became the Buffaloes’ 38th addition through the transfer portal, a group that currently checks in as the nation’s seventh-best class of incoming transfers. While Coach Prime’s intentions of rebuilding depth through the transfer portal do not seem like a sustainable ideology, the team has added some big names ahead of the 2024 season.

Yates and the Buffaloes will play for the first time in 2024 on Thursday, August 29th, against the North Dakota State Bison.
