Former Baylor Forward Caleb Lohner Switching Sports to Play Football at Utah
In a wild turn of events, former Baylor forward Caleb Lohner is officially switching sports and has committed to playing football for the Utah Utes.
Lohner, a 6-foot-8, 235-pound senior, is expected to play tight end for the Utes in their first season as members of the Big 12 Conference.
“I’m very excited and grateful to announce my commitment to play football at the University of Utah,” Lohner said in a statement. “This presents a unique opportunity to potentially commit on the court as well. I look forward to embracing the challenge and privilege to represent the Utes with pride!”
The senior forward played sparingly in his fourth season of college basketball, averaging 2.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game at Baylor. Lohner will now return to his home state of Utah after electing to transfer to Baylor as a junior. Lohner started his career at BYU where he remained from 2020-2022.
Coming out of Wasatch Academy High School in the Class of 2020, Lohner was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 206th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 38th-ranked player at his position and the second-ranked player in the state of Utah.
While Lohner did mention the possibility of becoming a dual-sport athlete at Utah in football and basketball, fans will have the opportunity to see the former Bear take the gridiron for the first time on Thursday, August 29th, against Southern Illinois.
