UCF Basketball Adds Memphis Transfer F JJ Taylor

UCF head basketball coach Johnny Dawkins.

Johnny Dawkins and the UCF Knights added a new name to their roster on Monday with the addition of former Memphis forward JJ Taylor.

Taylor elected to enter the transfer portal in December alongside current Knight, Mikey Williams, and will now reunite with his former teammate in Orlando.

Taylor played in just three games during his freshman season as both he and his teammate Mikey Williams were sidelined due to legal issues and disciplinary reasons from Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway.

Coming out of San Ysidro High School in the Class of 2023, Taylor was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 86th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 20th-ranked player in his class and the 14th-ranked player in the state of California.

With his commitment, Taylor became the Knights’ fourth addition through the transfer portal this offseason, alongside Mikey Williams, George Mason’s Keyshawn Hall, and Syracuse’s Benny Williams.

While UCF had a tough first season as a member of the Big 12 Conference in 2023-24, Johnny Dawkins is attacking the offseason transfer portal with the goal of contending for a title on his mind in 2024-25.
