Former Five-Star Recruit Cormani McClain Transfers To Florida

NCAA Football: Arizona at Colorado

Cormani McClain, the No. 1 ranked cornerback in the Class of 2023, has transferred from Colorado to join Head Coach Billy Napier and the Florida Gators.

According to 247Sports, McClain was ranked as the No. 14 prospect out of high school, but he will join the gators as a preferred walk-on.

After playing only one season under Head Coach Deion Sanders, the Lakeland, Florida native has four years of eligibility remaining.

In his lone season with the Buffaloes, McClain appeared in nine games, starting four while recording 13 tackles as well as two pass breakups. His season-high came in a loss to Washington State on Nov. 17, 2023, as he totaled five tackles.

The Gators are coming off a rough season, placing eighth in the SEC with a record of 5-7. They did pull off a Week 3 upset over rival Tennessee on Saturday, Sep. 16.

Five wins are the fewest the Gators have had in a season since they went 4-7 in 2017.

McClain joins a strong transfer class that Napier has strung together, including defensive backs Trikweze Bridges (Oregon), Jameer Grimsley (Alabama), and Asa Turner (Washington).

In high school, McClain helped Lakeland finish its senior season undefeated at 14-0 and cap off his career with a Florida State Championship.
