Garrett Greene is the Highest-Ranked Returning Quarterback In The Big 12

NCAA Football: Duke's Mayo Bowl-North Carolina at West Virginia

Heading into last season, 247Sports released their list, ranking the top starting quarterbacks at the Power Five level.

Greene was ranked last on the list at 69th.

Therefore, expectations were not very high for West Virginia Football in the 2023 season. However, Head Coach Neal Brown and the company shocked the country. The Mountaineers finished the season with a record of 9-4, which was capped off in Duke’s Mayo Bowl victory over North Carolina.

Fast-forward a year, and PPF College ranked Greene as the top returning quarterback in the Big 12 with a score of 90.9.

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Utah quarterback Sam Huard, Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita, Baylor quarterback Dequan Finn, and Houston quarterback Zeon Chriss rounded out the top five. Players who saw at least 250 snaps last season were eligible to make the list.

Greene wrapped up his junior campaign with 2,406 passing yards, along with 772 rushing yards. He threw for 16 touchdowns with only four interceptions.

In a 56-17 victory over Duquesne on Sep. 9, 2023, Greene threw for a career-high four touchdown passes.

Twenty-two career rushing touchdowns places him 11th all-time in school history, as he ran for two or more touchdowns in five games this past season.
