The 2024 version of the Big 12 looks like it could be the most entertaining conference in college football. As we head into the latter half of May, there appear to be 10 teams who could legitimately win the conference.

Look no further than West Virginia, which finished 9-4 last season and returns several key starters. The Mountaineers are ranked behind nine other teams in win totals for the year.

It’s incredibly difficult to predict how the conference is going to play out, but there is a trend starting to form. In some way, shape, or form, it appears Kansas State and Utah are the favorites to represent the Big 12 in the first 12-team format for the Collete Football Playoff.

On Thursday, The Athletic released its updated post-spring Power Rankings (see ours here) for the Big 12, and the Wildcats and Utes are at the top.

Chris Klieman’s squad gets the edge at No. 1, with Justin Williams pointing out that he’d put Utah there if it weren’t for Cam Rising’s injury history. Behind the Utes at No. 3 is Kansas, which has all the offensive firepower they could ever need—that is if Jalon Daniels can stay healthy.

Arizona checks in at No. 4, with Noah Fifita and Tetairoa McMillan making the list of key returners for the Wildcats. Iowa State checks in at No. 5, while Oklahoma State is at No. 6 despite returning 85% of their production from a 10-win team a year ago.

UCF is at No. 7, followed by West Virginia, Texas Tech, and TCU, rounding out the Top 10.
