Kevin Young and the BYU Cougars are hosting one of the top players in the transfer portal over the weekend, with North Florida guard Chaz Lanier visiting Provo.

Lanier is currently going through the NBA Draft process and is not guaranteed to return to top college basketball, but if he does, he has set visits to BYU and Kentucky and is considering Tennessee.

Lanier is one of the top remaining players in the transfer portal and is the No. 1 player available at his position after posting some incredible numbers as a junior in 2023-24. Last season at North Florida, Lanier posted career numbers, averaging 19.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He also connected on 51% of his shots from the field and 44% from three.

While Lanier was listed as an unranked prospect by most major recruiting services when coming out of high school, the Tennessee native worked his way into a four-star portal prospect three seasons later. Lanier checks in as the 11th-ranked player in the portal on the 247Sports index and the third-ranked player at his position.

While BYU will have to beat out the likes of impressive programs like Tennessee and Kentucky to land Lanier, should the junior guard wind up in the Big 12 Conference as Cougar, the league will have added yet another talented scorer to its ranks.
