The Baylor softball team is heading to the Super Regionals for the first time since 2017 after beating Louisiana 4-3 on Sunday afternoon in the Regionals.

The Bears were playing their second game of the day after getting crushed by Louisiana 13-0 in their first game. Then, in the winner-take-all finale, the Bears picked up a gritty come-from-behind 4-3 victory.

Baylor got on the board in the first inning when Emily Hott hit a solo homer to center field. But Lousiana got two back in the bottom of the first inning. Two sacrifice flies from Victoria Valdez and Brooke Ellestad put the Ragin Cajuns up 2-1 after one inning of play. But Sydney Collazos got Baylor back to even in the second inning with a solo homer to left field.

Fast forward to the bottom of the third when an RBI single from Cecilia Vasquez put Lousiana back on top 3-2. But the Bears would not go down easy. In the top of the fifth inning, Baylor got a sacrifice fly from Shaylon Govan to tie the game at three, and then Aliyah Binford drove in the eventual game-winner with a single to left field, scoring Emily Hott.

Rylee Crandall went the length in the circle, throwing a complete game of seven innings, nine hits, one earned run and one strikeout.

The Bears now head to Gainesville, Florida to take on the Gators and will look to punch their ticket to the Women’s College World Series for the first time since 2017. The series will begin on Thursday, May 23rd.
