Oklahoma State Softball Makes Super Regionals With 4-1 Win Over Michigan

Syndication: The Oklahoman

The Oklahoma State Cowgirls are heading to the NCAA Softball Super Regionals after an 4-1 win over Michigan on Sunday afternoon in the Stillwater Regional.

The Cowgirls are one step closer to the Women’s College World Series, which they have reached every season since 2019 (other than 2020, which was cancelled due to COVID-19).

Oklahoma State got on the board in the top of the first inning when Tallen Edwards singled to right field, driving in Jilyen Poullard. Michigan responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the first. But OSU broke the tie in the top of the second inning Lexi McDonald went deep with a solo home run to put the Cowgirls up 2-1. OSU tacked on a couple more insurance runs in the top of the 5th inning when Karli Godwin homered to left center for a 4-1 lead.

Lexi Kilfoyl started the game for the Cowgirls and went the full seven innings, giving up just five hits and one run with eight strikeouts on the afternoon.

OSU was shocked in the Big 12 Softball Tournament last week, getting knocked out early by BYU. But the Cowgirls took care of business in the Regional, beating Northern Colorado 6-2 on Friday, then shutting out Kentucky 6-0 on Saturday, followed by Sunday’s win over Michigan.

The Cowgirls will host their Super Regional in Stillwater, starting on Thursday, May 23rd. They will face either Arizona or Villanova.
