Bleacher Report Compares Bronny James to Former WVU Star Miles McBride

NCAA Basketball: Kansas at West Virginia

In ESPN’s newest 2024 NBA Mock Draft, experts have projected USC Freshman Bronny James to get drafted No. 56 overall to the Boston Celtics.

This past week, Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman named his “5 Realistic NBA Player Comps for Bronny James.”

James was compared to former West Virginia guard Miles McBride due to his ability to guard the perimeter effectively for an undersized guard. Both McBride and James are 6-foot-1 guards, who can also handle the ball offensively.

The former Mountaineer improved his three-point shooting in the NBA. During his college career, he shot just 36.8% from deep, but this past season with the New York Knicks, he connected on 41% of his three-point attempts.

McBride solidified his role as a backup guard for the Knicks, but he started 14 games last season to help the Knicks clinch the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.

In order to get minutes with an NBA team, James will have to become more consistent as a shooter. In his lone season with USC, he averaged 4.8 points, with shooting averages of 36.6% from the floor and 26.7% from three.

Along with McBride, Wasserman also compared him to Detroit Pistons guard Quentin Grimes, Orlando Magic guard Gary Harris, 76ers guard De’ Anthony Melton, and Kings guard Davion Mitchell.
