Baylor Drops Game One of Super Regional vs. Florida, 4-2

Baylor Softball Aliyah Binford

On Friday, Glenn Moore and the Baylor Bears dropped Game One of the Super Regional Round vs. the Florida Gators 4-2.

Florida now holds a one-game lead in the best-of-three series, which pushes Baylor into a must-win Game Two on Saturday, May 25th, at 10:00 a.m. CT.

Baylor’s offense fell flat on Saturday, posting two runs on six hits. Florida pitcher Keagan Rothrock took care of business against the Bears, pitching a complete game with five strikeouts and an ERA of 2. On the flip side, Baylor’s Aliyah Binford took the loss, surrendering four runs on five hits in six innings pitched.

Florida batters went 5-24 (.208) on the day with timely hits to take the lead, including an early three-run first, while Baylor finished 6-26 for an average of .231. Binford gave the Bears some hope in the batter’s box, going 3-3 with two RBIs and a solo home run in the third to put Baylor within one of the Gators. She accounted for half of Baylor’s hits on Friday, with Sydney Collazos and Shaylon Govan recording the other three.

With Florida holding a one-game lead over Glenn Moore and the Baylor Bears, the team will need to take home Game Two if they hope to continue their run toward the Women’s College World Series. If the team is able to Game Two on Saturday against Florida, the Bears will force a Game Three to decide who advances to the WCWS.

First pitch in Saturday’s matchup between Baylor and Florida is set for 10 a.m. CT on ESPN+.
