While it’s no secret that FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt tends to bolster the stock of his former University, his comments on Colorado‘s future in the Big 12 Conference turned some heads on Monday.
Klatt spoke about the possibility of the Buffaloes competing for a Big 12 title in 2024 if the team can avoid any unforeseen injuries.
“There’s a chance that Colorado’s competing to go to the Big 12 Championship Game,” Klatt said on The Herd. “If they were to get in that game, they would be 60 minutes from the College Football Playoff. It’s not out of the realm of possibility. The point of hiring Deion Sanders, among other things, was relevance. Deion has hit it out of the park at Colorado. When you look at what they were, a one-win irrelevant program, and what he has turned them into.”
Klatt did note that Colorado’s first season with Deion Sanders at the helm did not go well, but that did not stop him from painting the picture of what could be in store for the group.
“I think that Colorado if they’re able to protect Shedeur Sanders, can win eight games. I think that they can double their win total from a year ago. I think that they can maybe even win nine games. And when you look at their schedule, and you look at the entirety of the Big 12 conference, and what they’re going to have to play, there is a scenario where if Shedeur Sanders is healthy, and they maintain some of that health with guys on the outside, Travis Hunter, who I think is one of if not the best overall player in college football, there’s a chance that Colorado’s competing to go to the Big 12 Championship Game.”
Colorado will have a chance to live up to expectations or fail in style when the season kicks off against the North Dakota State Bison on Thursday, August 29th.
