Look: WCWS Semifinals Delayed Due to Inclement Weather

Fans watch the Women's College World Series softball game between Oklahoma and UCLA at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Saturday, June 5, 2021, after storm caused a weather delay.

Just four teams remain in the hunt for a Women’s College World Series title after the first four days of action at Devon Park in Oklahoma City.

Just two teams have made it this far unscathed, as Oklahoma and Texas have both gone 2-0 and appear to be the favorites to advance to the WCWS Finals, which is set to begin on Wednesday.

Before they can get there, though, the Sooners and Longhorns will have to pick up one more win apiece. OU will be tasked with beating Florida to advance to its fifth consecutive championship series. Meanwhile, Texas will have to beat Stanford for a second time in the last several days after Nijaree Canady and the Cardinal took down UCLA on Sunday night.

The Sooners and Gators were set to take the field around 11:00 a.m. for the first game of Monday’s semifinal action, but thanks to spring weather in Oklahoma, there will be a delay in the action.

On Monday morning, the official NCAA Softball social media account alerted fans that inclement weather in the area has already pushed back the expected first pitch by more than 90 minutes.

“With lightning expected in the Oklahoma City area, the start time for Game 11 will be delayed,” the post reads. “First pitch is expected to be 1:36 PM ET/12:36 PM CT.”

The NCAA also announced that the gates at Devon Park will now open up at 11:30 a.m. CT while shuttle busses between Remington Park and the stadium will begin their routes at 11:20 a.m. CT.

Both Oklahoma and Texas have the luxury of needing just one more win to advance to the Championship series, while Florida and Stanford will need to secure back-to-back wins over the Sooners or Longhorns to advance.

Texas’ game against Stanford is still currently on schedule for 6:00 p.m. CT, while the if-necessary games for both matchups would begin shortly after the conclusion of the scheduled contests.
