College football bowl season, ate December and running through New Year’s Day, and has been college football’s post-season for over a century, but this season, things are set to change.

The new College Football Playoff format will stretch the length of the bowl season all the way to the third week of January, with the CFP National Championship game scheduled for Monday, January 20.

The Cricket Celebration Bowl will kick things off on Saturday, December 14, which is well over a month of college football bowl games. In total, there are 43 postseason bowl games, plus the annual East-West Shrine Bowl, which comes 10 days after the national championship on Thursday, January 30.

The Big 12 bowl affiliations will change with all New Year’s Six Bowls now being included as part of the College Football Playoff going forward.

From what we’ve gathered, the Alamo Bowl will now get first dibs on Big 12 teams after the 12-team playoff is selected. Next, the Pop-Tarts Bowl will get a selection, followed by the TaxAct Texas Bowl. The Liberty Bowl, Guaranteed Rate Bowl, and Independence Bowl appear to finish out the list of immediate affiliations.

It is worth noting that the Armed Forces Bowl and First Responder Bowl could also choose a Big 12 school, should the need arise.
