After previously signing with the Purdue Boilermakers, forward Kanon Catchings reopened his recruitment and has been released from his letter of intent.

ESPN ranks the small forward as the No. 35 overall prospect in the Class of 2024, and he played last season in the Overtime Elite League.

Catchings plans to visit BYU, along with the Florida State Seminoles, per Joe Tipton.

Last season, the 6-foot-9 three-level scorer averaged 15.3 points and 6.2 rebounds, and knocked down 37% of his three-point shots for the Cold Hearts.

BYU finished its first season competing in the Big 12, finishing with a 23-11 record, which gave the team a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Cougars were upset in the first round, losing to the No. 11 seeded Duquesne Dukes.

Former head coach Mark Pope took the Kentucky job and brought Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year Jaxson Robinson with him.

Kevin Young was hired as the new BYU head coach and brings NBA experience to Provo after coaching stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Phoenix Suns.

The newly-hired head coach secured commitments from Rutgers transfer Mawot Mag and Utah transfer Keba Keita ahead of the 2024-25 college basketball season.
