2025 Three-Star DB Swayde Griffin Commits to Texas Tech

NCAA Football: Texas Tech at North Carolina State

Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders added a new name to the Class of 2025 with the commitment of three-star defensive back Swayde Griffin.

Griffin, a 6-foot-1 defensive back from Texas, chose the Red Raiders over offers from three other programs, including Arizona, Arizona State, and Minnesota.

Coming out of Lago Vista High School in the Class of 2025, Griffin was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 1164th-ranked prospect. He also checks in as the 77th-ranked player in his position and the 136th-ranked player in the state of Texas.

Football runs in the family for Swayde Griffin as his father, Cedric, played college football for Texas and went on to be selected in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He spent seven years in the National Football League, where he recorded 412 total tackles in 89 games played, alongside 16 forced fumbles, eight interceptions, and 54 pass breakups.

With his commitment, Griffin became the Red Raiders’ 13th addition in the Class of 2025, alongside 12 other prospects, including four-star wide receiver Tristian Gentry, four-star quarterback Lloyd Jones, and 10 other three-star prospects.

Texas Tech kicks off the 2024 season on Saturday, August 31st, against ACU.
