Report: Texas Tech Softball Star Kailey Wyckoff Enters Transfer Portal

One of the best players in Big 12 softball is on the move as Texas Tech C/UTL Kailey Wyckoff has entered the transfer portal, according to a report from D1Softball’s Justin McLeod.

Wyckoff, a sophomore from Katy, Texas, started 49 games for the Red Raiders in 2024 and was considered the centerpiece of Craig Snider’s rebuild before he resigned on Sunday. Snider has accepted a positon on the staff at Tennessee, while Texas Tech announced its intentions to start the search for another head coach immediately.

Losing a player of Wyckoff’s caliber isn’t something that most teams can simply overcome, let alone a young team that leaned so heavily on her over the past two seasons.

Over her two-year stint in Lubbock, Wyckoff maintained a .400 batting average with 16 HR, 66 RBI, and a .467 on-base percentage. She also had a .702 slugging percentage, showing the power she possessed with 50 total extra-base hits.

Wyckoff was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2023, as well as being named to the All-Big 12 Second Team and a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team. In 2024, Wyckoff improved her batting average (.407), RBI total (35), and on-base percentage (.482) while decreasing her number of strikeouts on the year to just 12—resulting in her being an All-Big 12 first-team selection.

With her former head coach headed to Knoxville, the Lady Vols will be a team to watch for Wyckoff’s services. However, as is the case with any player of her caliber, there will be plenty of suitors hoping to gain an experienced catcher with two years of eligibility still intact.
