Legendary broadcaster Dick Vitale chimed in on one of his favorite portal additions on Friday, highlighting Kansas State‘s addition of Illinois transfer Coleman Hawkins.

Vitale spoke highly of the fit between Coleman Hawkins and Kansas State and complimented both parties for joining forces.

“A big day for Kansas State Basketball and Coach Tang as they add to their impressive roster COLEMAN HAWKINS, who has star ability,” Vitale wrote. “They are jumping with joy in Manhattan as Coach Tang is AWESOME BABY!”

Hawkins announced his decision to join the Wildcats on Friday morning and did so with what is believed to be the most lucrative college basketball NIL deal ever negotiated by a collective. Hawkins—a 6-foot-10 forward—is reportedly set to earn $2 million, per Shams Charania’s report. A CBS Sports report confirmed that the deal was “a little north of $2 million.”

Hawkins became one of the top-ranked players in the transfer portal this offseason after withdrawing from the 2024 NBA Draft and will take the court in Manhattan for one final season of eligibility. In 2023, Hawkins posted 12.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game on 45.1% shooting from the field.

The senior forward caps off an impressive starting five in Manhattan that appears to consist of Dug McDaniel, CJ Jones, Achor Achor, and Ugonna Onyenso, giving Coach Tang plenty to work with ahead of the 2024-25 season.
