Kansas State Opens as Big Favorite in 2024 Sunflower Showdown

NCAA Football: Kansas State at Kansas

With both teams in the Sunflower State expected to make a run toward a Big 12 title in the fall, Circa Sports released the opening line for the 2024 Sunflower Showdown.

Chris Klieman and the Kansas State Wildcats were given the nod in the matchup and will enter the contest as eight-point favorites at home.

While the series has been rather one-sided over the previous years, with Kansas State taking home 15-straight wins over their in-state rival, the Jayhawks return some impressive players from their 2023 roster. Kansas could make a push and flip the script in 2024.

In 2023, Kansas controlled the Sunflower Showdown late in the second half before mistakes tipped the scales back in favor of the Wildcats. Kansas State went on to outlast Kansas in Lawrence with a 31-27 final score, extending the streak to 15 games.

Despite recent struggles prior to the Lance Leipold era of Kansas football, the Jayhawks have quickly completed a turnaround and are set on becoming a consistent contender in the new Big 12. The team returns individuals like Jalon Daniels, Devin Neal, Daniel Hishaw, and each of their top three receivers, including Quentin Skinner, Lawrence Armstrong, and Luke Grimm.

For Kansas State, the Wildcats are entering the matchup with a new signal caller under center with rising sophomore Avery Johnson taking control of the helm. Kansas State added former Colorado running back Dylan Edwards through the transfer portal, who is expected to be a sizeable contributor in tandem with 1200-yard back DJ Giddens.

While it’s too early to predict what the eventual outcome of the contest will be, the updated lines from Circa Sports provide some insight into how Las Vegas feels about the matchup.
