Preview magazine season is here as we roll into the back half of June, and college football fans begin to set their eyes on the things to come in the year ahead.
Along with Phil Steele and Lindy’s, Athlon Sports has made a name for itself as one of the giants in the preview magazine business, cementing itself as a mainstay on grocery store shelves across the nation.
This magazine, in particular, has long had a segment during this part of the season when they ask coaches anonymously about the other schools in their league.
It’s here where we’ll take a look at what some of the Big 12’s coaches have to say about the Colorado Buffaloes.
In 2024, Deion Sanders and the Buffs got off to a roaring 3-0 start before finishing the season 4-8. Coach Prime’s programs was one of the biggest storylines of the year, regardless of success, and that’s likely to be the case once again in 2024. However, one coach says that regardless of the “circus,” there’s really only one thing that will determine whether or not Year 2 is more successful.
“It’s gonna be a circus just like last season, so expect the unexpected,” A Big 12 coach told Athlon Sports. “It doesn’t matter what noise Prime makes — they cannot have a winning season without a functional run game and a legit offensive line. That’s the one position group you can’t really portal in one cycle. If they’re halfway better there, they’ll have a winning season.”
This coach also said that, despite the hype and headlines, Shedeur Sanders really is a player that should garner some attention.
“The known quantity is at quarterback, and when you look at the kid [Shedeur Sanders] away from the hype and his dad, he can make legit throws and has innate talent and great instincts.”
With perhaps the best two athletes in the Big 12 in Sanders and WR/CB Travis Hunter, Colorado could be the team that could beat nearly anyone on any given Saturday, but consistency up front is going to be the steering wheel.
The Buffs open up their 2024 season against North Dakota State on Thursday, August 29, at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN.
