Oklahoma State Sets Kickoff Time for 2024 Season Opener

Oklahoma State's Nickolas Martin (4) celebrates an interception in the fourth quarter of the college football game between the Oklahoma State University Cowboys and the Kansas State Wildcats at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater. Okla., Friday, Oct. 6, 2023. OSU won 29-21.

Oklahoma State football announced on Thursday that its 2024 season opener, on Saturday, August 31, will kick off at 1:00 p.m. CT.

Mike Gundy and the Cowboys are coming off the eighth season of 10 or more wins in his tenure in Stillwater, and they’re looking to make that nine seasons in 2024.

They’ll face an unlikely test in Week 1, though, as the South Dakota State Jackrabbits will come to the Panhandle State to face the Pokes in Boone Pickens Stadium.

Some of you likely laughed when reading the statement above, but I assure you, SDSU is more than capable of giving Gundy’s Cowboys a scare in the first week of the season.

The Jackrabbits are the defending back-to-back FCS national champions and are riding a 29-game winning streak that dates back to September 3, 2022, when they were defeated 7-3 by the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The good news is, SDSU likely hasn’t seen anything like Ollie Gordon over the past two seasons, and Oklahoma State’s offensive line should be among the best units in the Big 12. Plus, after Monday’s announcement, the weather might play a factor in the game, too, and OSU will certainly be better prepared for the scorching Oklahoma sun.

The average high for Stillwater, Oklahoma, on August 31 over the past three years has been 93 degrees, so folks planning on attending the season opener in ’24 had better prepare accordingly. The heat of the day, which is typically around 3:00 p.m. in Oklahoma, will likely arrive somewhere in the third quarter of the game, so bring plenty of water and prepare to sweat, folks!
