Four-Star Defensive Lineman Amir Leonard-Jean Charles Commits to WVU

NCAA Football: North Carolina State at West Virginia

On Thursday, the West Virginia football team landed its 16th commitment from the Class of 2025 with 6-foot-3 defensive lineman Amir Leonoard-Jean Charles.

According to Sports Illustrated, Leonard-Jean Charles has previous ties to WVU, as his mother, Antoinette Leonard-Jean Charles, was on the swim team when she attended the university.

The four-star prospect chose the Mountaineers over Syracuse and Tennessee but also received offers from several Power Four programs such as Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ole Miss, and Texas.

Heading into his senior season, the future Mountaineer plays for Lipscomb Academy located in Nashville, Tennessee.

His official visit took place from June 7-9, and he became the second four-star recruit from the 2025 cycle to sign with West Virginia, joining running back Deandre Desinor.

Head coach Neal Brown inked a contract extension in March to keep him in Morgantown through 2027 after the team finished 9-4 in 2023 and defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

This marked West Virginia’s best season since the program went 10-3 back in 2016. Several key players from last season’s team will return such as quarterback Garrett Greene, running backs CJ Donaldson and Jahiem White, and safety Aubrey Burks.

WVU will open up the 2024 season at home against Penn State on Aug. 31 at 12 p.m. EST.
