Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears added a new name to the Class of 2025 on Friday with the commitment of three-star defensive back Leo Almanza.

Almanza, a 6-foot-1 defensive back from Texas, chose the Bears over offers from 15 different programs, including Kansas State, Utah, Texas Tech, Houston, Arkansas, and more.

Coming out of Byron Nelson High School in the Class of 2025, Almanza is listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 896th-ranked prospect. He also checks in as the 80th-ranked cornerback in his class and the 145th-ranked player in the state of Texas.

“We’re bringing the Big 12 Championship back to Baylor,” Almanza told Bears Illustrated’s Will Turboff. “It’s coming back to Waco, I can tell you that. I’m really bought into them having a good season. They’ve definitely made me feel like they’re ready to turn things around, and I trust that.”

With his commitment, Almanza became the Bears’ 11th addition to the Class of 2025, joining a class headlined by four-star running back Caden Knighten, three-star defensive lineman Christopher Johnson, and three-star athlete Demetrius Brisbon.

Almanza and the rest of the future Bears will have an opportunity to watch their team take the field for the first time in 2024 on Saturday, August 31st, against the Tarleton State Texans.
