After narrowly losing a winner-take-all College World Series Game 3 to the Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle had a major decision to make when it came to his future.

On Tuesday afternoon, it appears he’s made that decision, as 247Sports’ Chip Brown reports that the Texas Longhorns are expected to hire Schlossnagle away from the Aggies.

Aggies’ archrival, the Texas Longhorns, fired head coach David Pierce on Monday and appear to be moving forward with Schlossnagle at the helm.

According to an earlier report from the Houston Chronicle’s Kirk Bohls, the Longhorns zeroed in on the Aggies head coach to fill their coaching vacancy, and now it appears he will be the man to replace Pierce in Austin.

The decision comes shortly after the Aggies head coach has an opportunity to speak with representatives from Texas A&M in hopes of the program keeping Schlossnagle in College Station.

Following the 6-5 loss to Tennessee, Schlossnagle was asked about the likelihood of himself entertaining the Texas job, prompting a fiery response from the Texas A&M coach.

“I think it’s pretty selfish of you to ask me that question, to be honest with you,” Schlossnagle said. “I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. That hasn’t changed in my mind. That’s unfair to talk about something like that. That’d be like you asking Montgomery if he’s going to sign in the draft, but I understand you gotta ask the question. I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job, and I’ve poured every ounce of my soul into this job. I’ve given this job every single ounce I could possibly give it. Write that.”

Well, now we’ve got plenty to write about, and with Schlossnagle leaving a team that just finished a game shy of winning a national title to go and coach for their archrival, there are certain to be many more storylines ahead.
