The college football season is just a few weeks away and speculation continues as to how the season will go across the sport. The Big 12 Conference is fresh off its Media Days this week in Las Vegas, and notable media members are already predicting a big season for the league.
FOX Sports’ Tim Brando said on OutKick’s “Hot Mic” this week that the Big 12 will have a “banner year,” which could “sweeten” the discussion around the possibility of Florida State and Clemson having interest in the league.
“Top to bottom, bottom to top, it’s gonna be the most competitive league in America. I think there’s a very good chance they could have multiple 11-1, 10-2-type teams because of the way their scheduling works this year, which would be great… I think the top is really, really good. I’m high on the Big 12 this year, very high,” Brando said. “And I think financially, if they can bolster the circumstances for Florida State and Clemson, then they might force the ACC, not just those two schools, but the rest of the ACC to think about joining forces so they can sweeten their financial pocket.”
Nine Big 12 teams finished with six or more victories last season, and with Oklahoma and Texas moving to the SEC, there are no clear favorites who will win the conference title.
Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark kicked off Big 12 Media Days on Tuesday with similar comments to Brando, saying, “We will be the deepest conference in America. Every week will matter. I’m going to say that one more time. We will be the deepest conference in America, and every week will matter. We have star power and parity. We boast some of the top players and coaches in the game. November will be incredibly exciting, and we will brand it as a race to the championship.”
There’s no doubt, the unpredictability of the Big 12 will make for an incredibly exciting season, but it would behoove the conference to have a couple of teams rise to the top and then, ideally, win a game, or two, in the College Football Playoff.
