Before the 2024 NBA Draft, several experts predicted former Kansas guard Johnny Furphy to be selected in the first round. However, he did not hear his name called on the first day of the draft.
The Indiana Pacers selected the 6-foot-8 forward with the 35th pick through a trade with the San Antonio Spurs.
So far, that looks like a great decision from the Pacers’ front office, as the former Jayhawk has averaged 16 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists through three summer league games.
In his most recent performance, Furphy tallied 18 points, eight rebounds, and two steals to lead the Pacers to a 98-94 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday.
The newest Pacer showcased his ability to spread the floor, making four threes in the win. He can defend several positions and score the ball on all three levels.
At Kansas, he led the team to a 23-11 record after posting 9.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game. He was very efficient from the floor, shooting 46.6% from the field and 35.2% from three.
His best performance came in a win over the Cincinnati Bearcats, where Furphy scored 23 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals.
