Former Kansas quarterback and current Indianapolis Colts signal-caller Jason Bean has quite a decision to make after an interesting development on Wednesday morning.
After landing on the Colts roster as an undrafted free agent (UDFA) and preparing for training camp next week, Bean has now been selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 UFL College Draft by the Memphis Showboats.
The United Football League, the result of a merger between the XFL and the United States Football League, plays in the spring and just wrapped a successful first season. The draft pool of available players is comprised solely of players who went undrafted in April’s NFL Draft.
Bean, who is coming off a spectacular senior season with the Jayhawks, will now have a chance to step in and be the starting quarterback for a UFL franchise.
Over his final two seasons with Kansas, Bean completed 63% of his passing attempts for 3,400 yards and 32 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. He also added 502 yards and seven rushing touchdowns during that time, proving a dynamic and trustworthy option with Jalon Daniels unable to stay healthy.
Bean finished his collegiate career with the most-eye popping performance of his entire tenure at Kansas. Against UNLV in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl, Bean threw for a career-high 449 yards and tied the Kansas football record with six touchdown passes in a 49-36 win.
Now at a major crossroads, Bean will have to choose whether he wants to try his hand at making an NFL roster or take the reigns and be the starter for the Showboats franchise. Either way, it’s a good day to be Jason Bean.
