With video game hysteria at an all-time high following the release of EA Sports College Football 25, Kansas athletic director Travis Goff got into a back-and-forth on social media with Missouri Football’s official team X account.

Goff tweeted in response to the official Missouri team account, which took a shot at the Jayhawks on social media.

The discourse started with Mizzou Football responding to a photo of an individual’s final score against Kansas in College Football 25, which showed the Tigers beating their former rivals 184-0. The official team account replied with the caption, “We’re in the game… (Maybe they shouldn’t be)”

Goff then called out the post on X, saying, “Bold coming from the official University account. You all can play video games all you want… Kansas will focus on the real-life stuff.”

While the rivalry was put on hold following Missouri’s decision to join the SEC in 2012, animosity and bad blood still run deep among fans from the border states. The last matchup on the football field between the two programs ended with a Missouri win, 24-10, in the 2011 season.

With programs consistently changing conferences and teams eager to schedule former foes in the non-conference schedule, a world where Missouri and Kansas clash once again does not appear to be too far off.
