Gunnar Gundy, son of Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy, is on the move again after spending the first three seasons of his collegiate career in Stillwater.
After redshirting as a freshman, Gundy would appear in four games over the next two seasons, completing 55% of his attempts for 449 yards and four touchdowns with four interceptions. He also added a pivotal rushing score in the Cowboys’ 31-23 win over Texas A&M in the TaxAct Texas Bowl.
However, that would be the last game that Gundy would play under his father, as he would enter the transfer portal following the 2023 season and announced that he would transfer to OU, that is, Ohio University.
After spending less than a week on campus in Athens (OH), Gundy re-entered the transfer portal and now finds himself much closer to home.
Back in April, Gundy remained undecided on where he’d finish his career, but this week we’ve learned that it’ll be at Emporia State, a Division II program located in Emporia, Kansas.
In high school, Gundy took over as the starter at Stillwater High School as a sophomore and led the program to incredible success, going 32-5 as a starter and leading his team to 12-1 records and state runner-up finishes in both his junior and senior years.
He closed out his high school career with a stellar senior season, passing for 3,481 yards and 47 touchdowns against just three interceptions, and decided to walk on at Oklahoma State despite receiving multiple scholarship offers.
Now, Gundy will have the chance to compete for the starting job at Emporia State, battling with fellow transfer Daron Bryden (Stony Brook) and long-time backup Chase Ricke.
