ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips Rejects FSU, Clemson Realignment Question

NCAA Football: ACC Kickoff

While the world of college sports has been focused on the possibility of UConn joining the Big 12 Conference for the past 48 hours, the ACC is not out of the woods yet.

On Saturday, ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips pushed back at a realignment question involving Florida State and Clemson saying, “It’s time to play football.”

“It’s time to play football,” Phillips told Pete Thamel. “I’ve been very direct about my thoughts about, we are going to fight these legal cases. But we are going to put those to the side. What’s nice about what’s coming up is we’re going to put the focus back where it should be – on student-athletes and our coaches.”

As of the start of the 2024 college football season, Clemson and Florida State are still wrapped up in active lawsuits with the ACC. Both parties recently met for meditation in an attempt to straighten things out, but no compromise was met.

That brings Brett Yormark and the Big 12 into the conversation as the league has been one of the hottest rising brands in all of college athletics in the last two years. Despite losing Texas and Oklahoma, the league has made eight incredible additions that have helped paved way to the league being as competitive as it has ever been.

While things in the ACC don’t appear to be coming to a close anytime soon, if Florida State and Clemson are to hit the market, it’s safe to say that Brett Yormark’s bat signal will be shining in the night sky.
