Watch: Big Ten Team Shoots Fireworks After Missed Field Goal

NCAA Football: Western Kentucky at Wisconsin

It was an eventful night in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as the hometown Golden Gophers opened up their 2024 season against North Carolina in a Big Ten-ACC showdown that lived up to the hype.

After adjusting the kickoff time due to inclement weather, the Golden Gophers and Tar Heels got things started and eventually worked their way into a one-possession, low-scoring affair that literally came down to the final play of the game.

Minnesota kicker Dragan Kesich had a chance to win the game as time expired, but missed a 47-yard attempt wide right as the clock ran out, giving UNC a 19-17 victory.

Unfortunately, Minnesota’s pyrotechnician didn’t get the memo that the field goal went wide right but instead decided it was time to celebrate with some fireworks.

I believe they didn’t miss the memo — this was a time when they said, “Yeah, something is gonna explode tonight.”

Otherwise, this is a total farce on their part, and the Gophers are probably looking for a new fireworks guy this morning.
