Big 12 football conference play gets into full swing this week, and if the Vegas spreads are any indication, we are in for an absolutely wild year of college football across this league.
Conference play kicked off last week with a UCF comeback against TCU, and we might see plenty more of that this week across the Big 12. When you look at the six conference games in the Big 12 this week, all of them have spreads of a touchdown or less.

Cincinnati -3.5 vs. Houston
West Virginia -2.5 vs. Kansas
Texas Tech -3 vs. Arizona State
Utah -2 at Oklahoma
Colorado -1.5 vs. Baylor
Kansas State -6.5 at BYU
My interpretation: Even Vegas doesn’t even know what’s going to happen in the Big 12 Conference this week or this season. Five of the six conference games have spreads of 3.5 points or less.
It’s why the Big 12 needs to lean into gambling and the absolute incredible drama that is likely to unfold in this conference in the weeks ahead. There is no blue blood, but what the Big 12 Conference has, that these other conferences won’t have, is an incredible amount of parity.
Now how that plays out come the College Football Playoff remains to be seen. The Big 12 does need to have a good showing come the postseason, or it will mean less if the league just brags about having a bunch of middle-of-the-pack teams. But we’ll worry about that when we get to December.
For now, the Big 12 can sell sizzle and excitement in basically every single game. And if UCF vs. TCU was a sign of things to come, watch out. And keep some pepto bismol handy on Saturdays. You’re going to need it.
