There’s a contingency of people on social media who just don’t seem to understand that once you put something out there on the internet, there is no coming back from it.
A few weeks ago, we witnessed a Florida State fan make headlines across the sports world for saying that he’d “eat dog sh*t out of a red solo cup with a spoon” if the Seminoles lost to Boston College. Naturally, Boston College did take down Florida State, and @321nole has been a runaway fugitive of the state ever since.
In fact, the universe is making him pay for his careless words and failure to follow through on his bet, as the Seminoles are now off to a 0-3 start.
It’s a cautionary tale that should stand the test of time — except it hasn’t. Now, after a 31-7 shellacking of Arizona, a Kansas State fan has etched their name in Twitter infamy after vowing to do something equally repulsive should the Wildcats lose their Big 12 road opener against BYU this weekend.
An account named @SaintBILLSnyder, which has neither confirmed nor denied being the real Bill Snyder, said that, well, we’ll just let you see for yourself.
At some point, this has to stop. When will we, as a society, quit making bets and saying things that we don’t mean? When will we stand for integrity once again? When will the term “a bet is a bet” mean something again?
Now, it’s worth noting that BYU and Kansas State haven’t played yet, and at this point in time, the bet is still in good standing.
However, should Kansas State lose in Provo this weekend, then the entire K-State fan base had better make sure a beefy five-layer burrito goes where it was promised. If not, the Wildcats could be subject to the same kind of curse that Florida State is going through right now.
It would be a shame to see a five-layer burrito go to waste, especially since they’re six dollars and change nowadays, so for that reason — and that reason alone — I’m pulling for the Cats here. However, if we’ve seen it once, we’ve seen it a thousand times. Rarely — if ever — do the football gods let something like this go unpunished.
