On Friday, former Colorado staffer Trevor Reilly spoke about his offseason decision to pursue a deal to receive NIL funds from Saudi Arabia and the PIF.
Shortly after news of the proposal broke, Colorado elected to step back and relieve Reilly of his duties.
In a recent conversation with Front Office Sports, Reilly discussed his plans at length and opened up about what inspired him to pursue funding from Saudi Arabia.
“I’m betting on myself,” Reilly said. ” I was trying to get more money so we can get better players. That’s it. More money, better players. What else is there? We had no NIL money when we came there.”
When discussing the NIL space at Colorado, Deion’s war chest needed to be big. With the Buffaloes retooling nearly their entire roster through the transfer portal on a yearly basis, it goes without saying that the roster was not the most cost-effective.
“I think Deion’s getting f***ed,” Reilly continued. “We’re asking him to do all this stuff and make all these miracles, and he only has $6 million. He brought it to the table, not them. There was no donor. There was donor fatigue. He shows up, and they get this money.”
While Colorado isn’t the only team in the nation fighting to increase its NIL budget, they are also fighting for respect after a challenging first season under Deion Sanders.
