The eyes of college football fans across the country have fallen on Norman, Oklahoma, this week as the Sooners get set to host No. 6 Tennessee in their first-ever game as a member of the SEC.
ESPN’s College Gameday is in town and the energy surrounding this game couldn’t be much higher than it already is.
However, it sounds like some of the folks in Norman are still a little tight in the collar. College Gameday’s Pat McAfee seemed to poke fun at the Sooners on Friday morning during his show, suggesting it was almost impossible to converse with anyone from OU.
“I think it’s really hard to talk to anyone from the Oklahoma football world,” McAfee said. “Coach [Nick] Saban has been able to accomplish a lot — has somehow managed to be able to have conversations. Kirby Smart — accomplished a lot, has somehow managed to be able to do some things. Dabo [Swinney] has figured out a way. Sark [Steve Sarkisian] has figured out a way. Ryan Day has figured out a way…
“So, I’m just saying. There is no precedent that you are curing COVID here by saying you can’t have a conversation to a show. There is a little interesting feel around here. They’re super locked in and focused. They have a way of doing things and that’s okay with them. That’s completely okay with them. And I hope they go on to win and it is beautiful here. But it’s like, ‘Can we just have a conversation with f—ing Danny Stutsman? The kid is awesome.'”
Oklahoma football SID Mike Houck responded to the comment on Twitter pretty quickly, too, suggesting that Stutsman will indeed appear in a feature on College Gameday, with the interview taking place earlier in the week. Additionally, Houck reassured McAfee and his fans that Bren Venables would also make an appearance on Gameday tomorrow morning.
The Sooners and Volunteers are scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. CT kick, with Tennessee currently favored by around a touchdown on the road.
