Sonny Dykes Responds to Getting Ejected From SMU Game

NCAA Football: Texas Christian at Colorado

It was a brutal Week 4 of the college football season for the TCU Horned Frogs. Head coach Sonny Dykes had to watch his team get blown out 66-42 vs. SMU from the locker room because he was ejected from the game after arguing with the officials.

Here’s when it happened early in the second half and what caused the ejection.

After the game, Dykes responded to the ejection, saying, “It’s my first time that’s ever happened… I thought it was maybe unwarranted.”

But regardless, Dykes knew it was a bad look, adding, “I apologize to our players and fans.”

As for the game itself, nothing went right for the Horned Frogs. TCU was down 17-0 less than ten minutes into the game and tried to play catchup the entire time. The Horned Frogs turned the ball over five times and had a whopping 14 penalties for 135 yards. On top of that, they gave up a punt return for a touchdown, a pick six and a fumble for a score.

Dykes went on to comment that the night could not have gone worse, saying, “Obviously, a bad night tonight. Everything that kind of could go wrong went wrong. Kind of surprised because we had a really good week of practice and thought we would play well this week.”

TCU is now 2-2 on the season and will be back into Big 12 Conference play next week on the road against the Kansas Jayhawks.
