While the SEC and Big Ten bias is heavily saturated among members of the college football sphere, one group unphased by the movement is the Southland Conference.
On Saturday, the official account for the Southland Conference savagely roasted the SEC and their bottom-dweller teams.
Two teams near the bottom of the SEC, Florida and Mississippi State, have become two of the league’s laughingstocks due to consistently underperforming expectations. After sluggish performances in the non-conference slate, the two teams clash in a matchup between 1-2 teams.
The RedditCFB account on X sparked the situation by tweeting that the loser of Florida vs. Mississippi State would be relegated to the Southland Conference, which prompted the league to respond, “No, thank you.”
The Southland Conference currently includes 12 teams from Texas and Louisiana. The league is one of the few groups to maintain some sense of regionality in the ever-changing world of college athletics.
The group consists of Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Lamar University, McNeese State, University of New Orleans, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
On Saturday in the Relegation Bowl between Florida and Mississippi State, the Gators beat the Bulldogs 45-28.
