Dabo Swinney Makes Bold Statement Regarding Tampering

NCAA Football: Clemson at Louisville

Following Clemson’s 40-14 win over Stanford, head coach Dabo Swinney made an interesting statement regarding the status of tampering with athletes.

Swinney mentioned that there’s an alarming amount of tampering that takes place during post-game handshakes.

“Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says there’s a ‘ton of tampering going on’ in college football on the field postgame,” The State Newspaper’s Chapel Fowler said. “Says he’s had players and other parents tell him Clemson players have been subtly recruited on the field postgame by opponents. ‘It’s the way things are.'”

With a relatively unregulated era of transfer portal entries, Swinney’s assessment is another hit in the modern era of college sports. With players across the country susceptible to tampering, the post-game show of sportsmanship has taken a negative turn.

“Dabo adds that he’ll tell opposing players congrats on the field postgame,” Fowler continued. “Which is OK by NCAA rules, but ‘I’m not going over there saying, If you hate it there, come play here.’ He estimates there’s a lot of that going on in college football in the transfer portal era.”

While Swinney’s opinion on the post-game tradition may not change anything anytime soon, the concern for players being tampered with after a big win or loss is definitely at an all-time high.
