Kirk Herbstreit Puts Three Big 12 Coaches in His Top 7 From Week 5

NCAA Football: ACC Championship-Clemson vs Miami

Following some impressive performances in the Week 5 slate, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit listed multiple Big 12 coaches among his Top 7 coaching performances of Week 5.

Colorado’s Deion Sanders, Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire, and Arizona’s Brent Brennan were all recognized, following the headliners on Herbstreit’s list.

The first Big 12 coach mentioned by Herbstreit was Colorado’s Deion Sanders, who took down the UCF Knights in Week 5, 48-21. The Buffaloes followed up their dramatic win over Baylor in overtime with a statement win against a team that many expected to compete for a Big 12 title in 2024.

Despite a slow start in the non-conference schedule for Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the team has bounced back admirably with a 2-0 start in Big 12 Conference play. McGuire’s squad opened the season with an eight-point win over Arizona State. In Week 5, Texas Tech kept a talented Cincinnati team at bay with a 44-41 victory over the Bearcats.

The third and final league member to receive praise from Kirk Herbstreit was Arizona’s first-year head coach Brent Brennan, who made one of the biggest statements of any team in Week 5. Unranked Arizona bounced back in a major way, taking down No. 10 Utah on the road.

With the Big 12 Conference proving to be the most chaotic college football conference of any league in America, it goes without saying that this will likely not be the last time members of the league earn praise from national media members.
